The Corona Emergency, which took effect in April in Tokyo and several other areas, was eased last month. However, the soft state of emergency will remain in place until July 11.

Japan is currently facing a fourth wave of corona virus. On Wednesday, 920 new cases were reported from across the country, the highest number since May.

The  Tokyo  Olympics  were postponed for a year last year because of the corona virus situation. So far, only 15% of the population has received both doses of the vaccine.

However, preparations are now underway for a precautionary contest in Tokyo. The symbolic Olympic torch arrives in Tokyo on Friday. Olympic organizers have urged people not to gather around the streets to watch athletes running on Tokyo's streets with torches.

As a precautionary measure, no public ceremony is being held on the arrival of the Olympic torch. There will be a small-scale event in which ordinary people will not be allowed to attend.
