Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has officially declared a state of emergency in Tokyo in response to a growing number of code-19 cases in the country's capital.
According to
the announcement, the ban will be effective from Monday, July 12 and will
remain in force till August 22. The World Olympics will be held in Tokyo during
the same period. The Tokyo Olympics will run from July 23 to August 8.
Under the
emergency, the government could immediately reduce the number of people coming
to watch the Olympics from 10,000 to 5,000 or stop everyone from going to the
Olympics.
Tokyo Olympics organizers said last month that they had reduced the number of spectators to 10,000 in the wake of the Corona epidemic, which is half the capacity of the ground. The aim is to maintain social distance between the people.

In addition, the organizers have banned fans from approaching the players, taking autographs and taking selfies with them.
Local and
national government officials and Olympic and Paralympic officials will
announce their decision on whether or not to allow spectators to come to watch
the Olympics after a meeting with International Olympic Committee President

The Corona Emergency, which took effect in April in Tokyo and several other areas, was eased last month. However, the soft state of emergency will remain in place until July 11.
Japan is
currently facing a fourth wave of corona virus. On Wednesday, 920 new cases
were reported from across the country, the highest number since May.
The Tokyo Olympics were postponed for a year last year because of the corona virus situation. So
far, only 15% of the population has received both doses of the vaccine.
However,
preparations are now underway for a precautionary contest in Tokyo. The
symbolic Olympic torch arrives in Tokyo on Friday. Olympic organizers have
urged people not to gather around the streets to watch athletes running on
Tokyo's streets with torches.
As a
precautionary measure, no public ceremony is being held on the arrival of the
Olympic torch. There will be a small-scale event in which ordinary people will
not be allowed to attend.
