Gas Supply From Karachi LNG Terminal Will Cut Off
The repair of the LNG terminal in Karachi and the closure of a local gas field have raised fears of a gas and electricity crisis across the country.
Power
generation has also declined due to suspension of gas supply to local power
plants due to terminal rehabilitation work. This is likely to increase the
duration of load shedding across the country.
According to
sources, gas supply to the export sector, CNG, RLNG stations and industries in
Karachi has been suspended indefinitely.

According to
sources, gas supply from Karachi LNG terminal will be cut off from tonight. The
LNG terminal could cut off the supply of 600 million cubic feet of gas per day.
So far only 3 LNG cargoes have been imported.
According to
sources, the Ministry of Energy has issued NOC for import of furnace oil to
power plants to overcome the possible power crisis.
According to
sources in the Ministry of Energy, a power crisis could erupt in the next one
week, which the Petroleum and Power Division has allowed power plants to import
furnace oil.
In case of
low power generation through gas in power plants, electricity will be generated
from furnace oil. Consumers will also bear the burden of electricity generated
from furnace oil and expensive electricity in terms of monthly fuel price.
The Ministry
of Energy had also allowed K Electric to import 50,000 metric tonnes of furnace
oil in October 2020.
