Social Media Is High-Risk For Society: Scientists Alert |
In a study published in the United States, scientists have revealed that social media is having far-reaching and irreversible effects on the overall behavior of human beings on a global scale, about which there is still no complete knowledge.
Seventeen researchers, ranging from philosophers to
meteorologists, took part in the study, which was published in the Proceedings
of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.
The study said that due to social media, billions of people are in constant touch with each other today. Scientists are largely unaware of how this is changing the behavior of human society, its effects on human survival and the environment. Scientists have stressed that social media
is a threat to the survival of human society and there is an urgent need for research.
The researchers wrote that this situation has brought with
it the same problems as environmentalists and biologists have seen when the
environment and the earth's system were affected by industries indulging in
profit-making activities in the absence of rules and regulations. Stability was
seriously threatened.
According to the researchers, in such a case,
environmentalists and geologists had to sound the alarm to understand the
dangers posed to the environment so that the facts could be reached quickly and
in the light of them such regulations could be formulated. To prevent the
system from becoming unstable.
The study points out that human society is currently facing similar threats. There is no research on how overall human behavior is changing in the current age of social media.
